Visit to Ireland

Welcome to our blog!
 This April a group of 26  ESO and Bachillerato students and two teachesr from Centro D. Bosco visited Dublin, the capital of Ireland.
It was an exciting and fulfilling experience for all of us.
We all stayed with Irish families and we got to know a different culture and  new interesting customs.
The students attended English lessons everyday at the Emerald Institute and had the opportunity to use the language in its real context. Furthermore, they realized they were able to communicate in English!
We went on tours through Dublin and learned many things about Irish history.
We had time for shopping and a bit of craic too!!
I hope we´ll be able to go back in the future.

(El pasado abril un grupo de 26 alumnos de ESO y Bachillerato del Centro D. Bosco viajó a Dublín, la capital de Irlanda. Fue, para todos, una experiencia emocionante y muy enriquecedora. Nos alojamos con familias irlandesas, lo que nos permitió conocer unas costumbres nuevas y , a veces, sorprendentes. Los alumnos asistieron a clases de inglés todos los días en el Emerald Institute y tuvieron la oportunidad de utilizar la lengua en contextos reales de comunicación.Hicimos, además, un montón de visitas guiadas por la ciudad y conocimos diferentes aspectos de la historia y la cultura de Irlanda. Tuvimos tiempo para ir de compras y un montón de momentos de diversión. Espero que podamos repetir el viaje en el futuro)

On our fist day we travelled to Kilkenny, a very nice town two hours away from Dublin. There we visited Kilkenny castle. (Visita al castillo de Kilkenny)

The weather was nice and we took some pictures in the lovely garden surrounding the castle. (Tuvimos muy buen tiempo y las vistas eran preciosas)

On our way back to Dublin we went into the prehistoric Dunmore Caves. They are quite similar to Valporquero. The way up was pretty tiring, over 700 steps. (Los 700 escalones de las cuevas de Dunmore, un ejercicio inmejorable para las piernas)

A "must" when visitig Dublin. The most famous University in Ireland and one of the most important ones in Europe. Some of the students decided they would come back to study a year of their University degree there. (El famoso "Campanile" de Trinity College, uno de los campus más prestigiosos de Europa. Un buen sitio para disfrutar de una beca Erasmus)

A Harry Potter atmosphere all around the place. (El campus parece sacado de una peli de Harry Potter)

Grafton Street, the most popular shopping street in Dublin, full of shops, people and live performances! (Grafton Street, siempre llena de gente y de tiendas...... que quedaron medio vacías después de nuestro paso por Dublín)

In Dublinia Museum, next to Christ Church, we heard about the Viking origins of the city. Some of the students even tried on the clothes! (¡Qué guapos estaban los chicos vestidos de vikingos. En Dublinia hicimos un viaje muy entretenido por el Dublín de los vikingos)

The most famous product ever to come out from Ireland: Guinness Stout. At Saint James's Gate The Guinness Storehouse is a landmark worth visiting. Due to the restrictive legislation on alcohol consumption we couldn't get the free pint though!. (El elixir negro, el producto más exportado , considerado casi un alimento: la famosa Guinness. En la factoría descubrimos el proceso de elaboración del producto irlandés por excelencia y los secretos de su característico sabor. La severa legislación sobre el consumo de alcohol no nos permitió disfrutar de la pinta  que te regalan al final de la visita)

However, we were able to contemplate the wonderful view from the crypt café on the top floor of the building. (Sin embrago, disfrutamos de las maravillosas vistas tomándonos una coca-cola)

Music and dancing are key concepts in the Celtic culture. We got a taste of it thanks to an interesting Irish dancing lesson. (Descubrimos lo importante que el baile y la música son para los celtas y aprendimos durante un rato algunos de los pasos más significativos)

In The Emerald Institude the students were divided into two groups to attend English lessons for 3 hours everyday. The lessons were really entertaining and they had a great time! (A pesar de tener 3 horas  diarias de inglés, los alumnos se divirtieron en la escuela y aprendieron mucho)

Andrea and Aroa's bathroom. In general the students felt comfortable with their families. There are though quite a few anecdotes to talk about! (Aprendimos a convivir con las familias y nos trajimos un montón de anécdotas sobre las que poder hablar con los nuestros)

McDonald's! The most visited place!Teenagers.... they eat, eat and eat. (¡Y teníamos miedo de que los niños pasaran hambre!. No vi a ninguno especialmente desmejorado en el viaje de vuelta)

Friendship! Students got on very well together. We enjoyed companionship in a very relaxing atmosphere. (El ambiente del grupo fue buenísimo.Amistad y compañerismo fueron la tónica general)
